Case Study of Palm Beach Gardens Home
The Palm Beach Gardens Home, set within one of the area’s most prestigious communities, is distinguished by its contemporary design. Formerly a design-grade spec house, the residence offered strong architectural bones but lacked the bespoke detailing the client envisioned. Having partnered with the homeowner on two previous projects, we brought an intimate understanding of their restrained, craft-driven aesthetic.
ENTRY Foyer
When entering the Palm Beach Gardens Home, the front door opens directly into a living and dining room. To create a meaningful sense of arrival, we introduced slatted oak screens, inspired by the clients’ formative travels throughout Japan. On the floor, we installed large-format, black-and-white terrazzo to further delineate the space.
The 20-foot ceiling height is accentuated by a delicate, geometric Hubert le Gall chandelier. The piece’s subtle finish and weightless design doesn’t impose on the space but feels instead like an elegant extension. The entry provides a succinct representation of the overall design of the home and sets the tone for many of the recurring materials and elements.
The entry opens up to this striking sitting room defined by floor-to-ceiling windows and a custom oiled bronze mantel that emphasizes the double-height space. Taking advantage of the verticality, we commissioned a custom freeform light sculpture from John Procario. The piece introduces movement and levity and, along with a custom area rug, helps bridge the seating area with the adjacent dining space.
In the dining area, the design takes its cue from one of the home’s original architectural elements: the travertine flooring that runs throughout the residence. That material language informed the creation of a custom travertine-topped table by Martin Masse, conceived as a sculptural centerpiece within the space. Installed by a team of more than two dozen people, the substantial piece introduces a grounding weight and permanence that beautifully balances the openness of the interior.
Kitchen
The kitchen was designed to balance everyday functionality with an atmosphere of understated luxury. Two spacious islands create ample room for cooking, entertaining, and casual gathering, reinforcing the space’s role as the heart of the home. Veined Calacatta Gold marble extends across the islands and backsplash, while white oak cabinetry introduces warmth and organic texture. A fully concealed pantry, discreetly hidden behind integrated millwork panels, maintains the room’s seamless architectural expression.
Family Room
The family room serves as the central gathering space within the home’s open-concept layout, seamlessly connecting the kitchen, dining area, and adjoining seating spaces. Anchoring the room, a sculptural cream sectional wraps around a striking elmwood coffee table by Stefan Bishop, introducing warmth and organic texture to the layered interior. Above, a custom fixture by Apparatus, composed of mixed metals, suede, and leather cylinders, adds a dramatic, artful presence overhead.
Game Room
The game room is the home’s primary gathering space. It is a generous, multipurpose room that supports a full range of activities. A taupe mohair sectional anchors the central seating area, facing a media wall finished in white oak millwork with supple leather inlay panels. Lime-washed walls give the room a soft, diffused texture that keeps the expansive planes from feeling bare.
In one corner, a sophisticated bar takes shape, defined by a stone waterfall counter and built-in shelving backed in amber-smoked mirrored glass. The interplay of reflective surfaces and polished stone introduces a subtle sensuality. Nearby, a billiards table maintains clear sight lines to the pool and outdoor living areas through a wall of glass doors.
Overhead, a custom light sculpture traces the perimeter of the room. The over-sized piece is composed of small wood orbs in varying tones and stains, suspended along the ceiling.
Primary Bedroom
The primary suite embraces a restrained material palette, with softness and texture taking precedence. Plush carpeting softens the travertine floors underfoot, while hand-troweled plaster walls catch and diffuse light with a subtle pearlescent finish.
At the center of the room, a custom extended headboard composed of overlapping upholstered panels introduces a sculptural focal point while seamlessly integrating a pair of sconces and floating nightstands. Framed by a wood-cased opening, the adjoining window seating area feels quietly intimate, anchored by a leather ottoman and two generously proportioned lounge chairs designed for moments of rest.
Primary Bathroom
The primary bathroom is a stunning architectural example of luxury, with the sinks and counters carved from solid travertine blocks. The custom glass enclosure provides privacy for the walk-in shower and a separate commode. At the center of the room, a stand alone tub rests, creating a center point of the room from which other elements branch out symmetrically. Overhead sits a custom Olga Engle, “Moonpapier Branch” Porcelain Chandelier from Armel Soyer Galerie that introduces a sculptural element to soften the space.
