7 Interiors with a Dark & Moody Aesthetic
Dark and moody interiors bring a sense of sophistication and drama. Deep colors and shadowed corners create intimacy, while materials like polished stone, stained wood, and soft upholstery stand out more vividly against a darker backdrop. These spaces feel enveloping and atmospheric, yet remain comfortable and inviting.

Luxe Urban Expansion
The dining room of our Luxe Urban Expansion home plays with light and shadow establishing a dramatic chiaroscuro effect. The crisp, white walls contrast against the deep-hues of the furnishings. A French Mid-century rosewood table anchors the space, paired with vintage upholstered dining chairs and sculptural bentwood chairs by Joseph Walsh. Layered accessories alongside an abstract artwork by Sean Scully complete the space and heighten its emotion.

Central Park South
The moody, mid-century-inspired office in our Central Park South home features a palette of deep, cool tones accented with pops of marigold. The walls and ceiling are drenched in high-gloss grey paint for a dramatic finish that bounces light beautifully. A custom light fixture by Rogan Gregory draws the eye up toward the lacquered ceiling. A dark colored abstract rug covers the floor and a brutalist-inspired desk adds to the room’s brooding aesthetic.

79th St Duplex
The family room of the 79th Street Duplex is the perfect spot for movie night. Dark and cozy, the space exudes a moody sophistication, with deep blue-gray walls enveloping the space in a sense of calm. A generous sectional sofa anchors the room, its plush cushions inviting ease and comfort. Layered with pillows in muted patterns and rich red tones, the seating introduces warmth and contrast, softening the cool palette while enhancing the room’s inviting character.

Tribeca Loft
The Tribeca Loft powder room embraces a celestial mood. A wooden vanity with an ebonized finish pairs with dark gray stone countertops and backsplash, establishing a strong material foundation. A custom mural by MJ Atelier wraps the room, its charcoal backdrop hand-painted with a delicate golden burst that shimmers like a constellation. Soft architectural lighting frames the mirror, casting a luminous moon-like glow.

Colorful Collector’s Abode
The dining room in our Colorful Collector’s Abode is a surreal and theatrical room with bold sculptural forms and fantastical elements. Custom commissioned Monster Chairs by the Haas Brothers and a chandelier by Rogan Gregory become statement pieces, looking almost otherworldly. The pieces are complemented by Max Lamb dining chairs and a Sebastian Errazuriz table. The palette of black, red, and white deepens the mood, transforming the room into a space where design and fantasy converge.

Leonard Street
In the Leonard Street dining room, art and furniture play together, creating a color palette and narrative that drives the design. The space is anchored by a Liu Ye piece, “Leave Me in the Dark” (2008), a painting whose nocturnal subject sets a contemplative tone for the space. Indigo-upholstered dining chairs by Chris Young echo the artwork’s palette, reinforcing a dialogue between art and furniture. Overhead, a sculptural chandelier by Frederick Molenschot casts dramatic twilight shadows.

Red Mountain
The Red Mountain kitchen emphasizes the natural beauty of stone and wood, highlighting materials like stained oak and Kenya Black stone to ground the space. The dark tones create a cozy, contemplative mood. The materiality reflects the mountainous landscape while the deep palette stands in striking contrast to the bright white snow outside, during the winter months.
