5 Exciting Wallcoverings that Aren’t Wallpaper
When it comes to dressing up your walls, the possibilities are truly endless. Wallpaper and paint are the usual suspects, but some lesser-known materials can also be used for a big impact. From custom ceramics, plaster or wood paneling to more unconventional materials such as felt or leather upholstery, we have rounded up some unique wallcoverings from our interiors that are sure to inspire.

Ceramic INSTALLATIONS
The Uptown Eclectic dining room features a statement wall sheathed in a custom installation by Brooklyn-based ceramicist Peter Lane. These striking tiles masterfully combine elements of brutalist design with the bold turquoise glaze and gold accents. The result is a wallcovering with remarkable depth and movement, transforming the space with its unexpected elegance. The tactile surface and vibrant hues create a compelling visual composition, making the wall not just a backdrop but a central piece of art that elevates the entire room’s ambiance.
LACQUERED AND CERUSED wood Paneling
This Fifth Avenue Pied-a-Terre takes cues from luxury yachts with high-gloss wood paneling in the entryway. This rich, lustrous veneer sets a tone of refined elegance and pays homage to the timeless sophistication of such interiors. The paneling is more than just a decorative element; it is an architectural statement that imbues the room with a sense of continuity and depth. The seamless joints and polished surfaces reflect light beautifully, enhancing the room’s ambiance and highlighting the fine craftsmanship involved.
Our Lakefront Home project radiates contemporary charm with cerused wood paneling in the family room. Treated with a subtle whitewash, this exquisite wallcovering accentuates the natural wood grain, adding texture and depth. The cerusing technique blends rustic charm with modern elegance, creating a striking visual impact and enhancing the room’s airy ambiance. This versatile backdrop complements sleek furnishings and eclectic art pieces, transforming the space into a warm, inviting sanctuary that harmonizes with the tranquil lakeside environment.

CUSTOM Plaster FINISHES
The Central Park Tower model residence is a tonal paradise, where the bedroom’s warm whites and soft cream tones are elevated by sumptuous textures. The walls, meticulously adorned with white plaster, boast a wood grain-like texture that adds an unexpected layer of sophistication. In the light, the plaster’s subtle reflection accentuates the delicate grain, infusing the room with a serene yet dynamic dimension.
Pembrooke & Ives has utilized custom plaster finishes in many installations. Unlike traditional plaster walls that often emanate a rustic charm, this modern finish is smooth to the touch and exudes a refined elegance.

ARTISTIC Felt
Our Luxe Urban Expansion project features custom felt artwork behind the bed in the primary suite. This bespoke installation features custom handwoven wool felt with hand-spun yarn and embroidery by Claudy Jongstra. The tactile richness and meticulous craftsmanship of Jongstra’s work bring an unparalleled warmth and texture to the room, creating a stunning focal point that harmonizes with the suite’s serene and luxurious aesthetic. The deep teal jewel tones of the space are carried over into the piece, combined with pops of gold embroidery. The interplay of natural fibers and delicate stitches adds a layer of artisanal elegance, transforming the wall into a living tapestry that exudes both comfort and sophistication.

Grasscloth WALLCOVERING
This West Village Penthouse’s charming mod office is wrapped in heathered gray grasscloth, a hand-woven natural fiber wallcovering that is backed with paper. The light gray complements the steely blue and vibrant orange in the room, creating a captivating palette. The material enhances the room’s depth and texture, even set behind the shelves as a backdrop. This surface treatment gives the office a sense of comfort and relaxation, resulting in a very tactile and inviting area.
