4 Contemporary Coastal Retreats We’re Dreaming of this Winter

For many of our clients, escaping to the coast offers a welcome reprieve from the bustling city life. While some migrate with the seasons, others have made these quieter enclaves their year-round home. We’ve gathered four projects that embody the essence of contemporary coastal living from Florida to New York.

1. La Gorce Circle

Conceived as the dream residence for a young family, La Gorce Circle balances luxury and livability for a fresh interpretation of modern coastal design. High ceilings and graceful arched doorways and windows frame lush tropical vistas, while a considered material palette of natural stone and wood grounds the interiors in organic warmth.

We explored the interplay of softness and strength, anchoring plush, inviting upholstery against the cool foundation of honed stone surfaces. The project also houses an eclectic collection of art and objects showcased in our interview with Design Director Jessica Iwaniec.

Blurring the boundary between inside and out became a guiding principle. We prioritized framing views that draw the eye toward the landscape and established a cohesive design language that flows from the interiors to the alfresco living spaces. The outdoor kitchen and dining nook echo the material vocabulary of the home’s interior, ensuring a seamless, uninterrupted transition from inside to out.

2. Lost Tree Way

Designed for a legacy client who seasonally travels between homes in New York and Florida, Lost Tree Way occupies a prime waterfront site in North Palm Beach. The residence embraces a contemporary coastal aesthetic rooted in sleek modernist architecture—clean concrete, warm wood accents, and large windows that capture the commanding water views.

Working with the clients’ modern art collection became a defining gesture. We established a refined gray palette throughout, allowing natural light to animate the interiors while providing a gallery-like backdrop for the artwork. Minimalist furniture silhouettes and architectural restraint are elevated through sumptuous material finishes. A layered approach to furnishing imbues each room with quiet, understated luxury.

Outside, the same rigorous attention to detail prevails. A poolside patio with sun loungers, an al fresco dining area, and a private dock with direct water access create distinct zones for leisure and entertaining, each thoughtfully positioned to honor the waterfront as the home’s defining asset.

3. Mecox Bay

The Mecox Bay project in Bridgehampton is an idyllic coastal retreat reimagined for contemporary life. Following a comprehensive two-year renovation, the residence embodies the clients’ vision: open, light-filled public spaces that flow effortlessly from one to the next.

To amplify the panoramic water views, we selected low-profile living room furnishings that direct the eye outward. The neutral palette established in the foyer deepens throughout the main living spaces into layered grays and pale wood tones, while texture assumes a central role with woven fabrics and richly tactile surfaces bringing warmth and dimension to each room. The open plan connects foyer, living room, lounge, and dining area in a continuous spatial sequence, fostering connection while preserving the distinct character of each zone.

4. Southampton Estate

The Southampton Estate was designed as the ultimate entertaining residence for a legacy client. The home marries grand architectural scale with relaxed, approachable interiors. Throughout, we paid meticulous attention to scale and proportion, particularly in the living room, where we explored the tension between symmetry and asymmetry to create visual intrigue.

The kitchen naturally becomes the heart of the home. We designed an oversized central island with bar-height seating, layering white oak cabinetry with stone accents to balance warmth and refinement. Envisioning lively dinner parties and soirées, the clients requested a dining room built for gathering. We delivered with a generous dining table and anchored the far wall with custom climate-controlled wine storage.

On the property, a modern pool house was erected, expanding the home’s entertaining repertoire. It’s the perfect spot for hosting weekend guests or spending languid summer afternoons poolside.
