In advance of this year’s Maison et Objet show, held from January 19th to 23rd, Pembrooke & Ives designer Hilary Lam shares with us her top picks for an art, design and food-packed day around the picturesque city of Paris.

Les Deux Magots Cafe

Les Deux Magots

Our journey begins with breakfast at Les Deux Magots, a historic Parisian café that has been open since 1885. Located in the Left Bank Latin Quarter, the airy and charming brasserie offers iconic pastries and wonderful people-watching.

Le Bon Marché

Next, head over to Le Bon Marché on the Left Bank for some shopping. The stained glass and intricate metal grilled ceiling will inspire your inner architect.

Be sure to visit La Grand Épicerie, a food hall near Le Bon Marché, to pick up a late morning coffee and sit across the street at Square Boucicaut.

Place des Vosges

The Place des Vosges is the oldest planned square in Paris. The vintage open-air market holds vendor booths and a park similar in sentiment to New York City’s Washington Square Park.

Marche des Enfants Rouge (Le Marais)

The tour continues over the Siene, passed the Sainte-Chapelle cathedral and the infamous Notre-Dame Cathedral and the Louvre Museum. In the neighborhood of Le Marais, you can find Marche des Enfants Rouge, a famous food market that originated in the 17th century. Visitors can browse the market for fresh produce, street foods for lunch, and flowers.

Centre Pompidou & Constantin Brancusi Studio

Journey over to Centre Pompidou, where architectural models and drawings by Le Corbusier can be studied. Across from the Pompidou, a recreation of Brancusi’s workroom, held in his former studio prior to being left to the state in 1957, showcases an array of his sculptures.

Sacre Coeur Sunset

Before heading to dinner, enjoy the dreamy sunset over Paris at Sacre-Coeur in Montmartre. The basilica is perched high above the city, offering a beautiful overlook for many tourists to enjoy. Be sure to get there early to grab a seat on the stairs!

From here, you can enjoy a delicious dinner of gourmet French cuisine at Le Bistrot du Maquis.
